I love that you know What If! Thank you for this beautiful comment and Im so glad you enjoyed the article. Im excited to read the Practical Homerist -- I was a Classics afficionado in high school and almost in college. But took Latin... always wanted to find a group to re-read the Odyssey with in Latin.
Nice to meet you. I took a one-year Latin course in high school and never looked back since -- even though I am aware of etymological links, IE roots, and the jolly company. Lexicological research is a part of how I'm approaching Homeric poetry. Btw, my BA is in French Lang & Lit... beautiful language... I never envisioned myself teaching it. I translated some for money though. Greek Classics, esp. Homer, is a passion & a joy for me -- as I'm pivoting in my 50's. What a ride!
What If... is magical.
It was your first sentence (subtitle) that drove me straight to the article. Well put, brava!

Wow, I am so excited to dive into your work more! And I love hearing about the pivot in your 50s and how Homer is inspiring you!
Thank you, Cara! Your words are encouraging, and I treasure every lil' bit of (grounded) encouragement these days. :)
